About this data
- Permit counts show all Shovels building permits filed in the last 12 months by issuing jurisdiction, across every permit type rather than only new construction.
- Jurisdictions are places surveyed by the Census Building Permits Survey, not every US municipality. The map shows the ones Shovels covers, not all 20,000 surveyed.
- County totals include unincorporated areas, and Census place names appear as-is.
- Metro areas that cross state lines appear under each state they touch with only that state's counties, and Non-metro groups jurisdictions outside any metropolitan or micropolitan area.
- Unknown county groups jurisdictions that the source data does not assign to a county.
- Only jurisdictions Shovels actively covers are shown. Counts and totals describe that covered set, not the full survey universe.
